    Rodolfo Opazo

"Rodolfo Opazo's painting has always been closely linked to his personal experience, to the things that happened to him in his childhood and to reflection on certain themes such as death and man: his wonder and his misery. The man of his paintings have universal characteristics, he is immersed in a daily life full of pressure, lack, lonely fear, that is why the features of the faces are never defined ".

Opazo was born in Santiago on March 8, 1935. He trained at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Chile and later entered Workshop 99 to study printmaking. Later, in 1961 and thanks to a grant from the Pan American Union, he moved to the United States to study Art at the Pratt Graphic Art Center.
He belonged to the Generation of 1960 along with Roser Bru, José Balmes and other artists, however, Opazo's work is part of the surrealist line of Matta, Zañartu and Antúnez.

His extensive artistic work has spanned several decades, being one of the few national artists featured in the catalogs of the prestigious Christie’s house in New York.
He died on June 27, 2019 at age 84.
