Arnaldo Pomodoro
"Italian sculptor famous for his bronze spheres representing the intricate designs of nature and the infinite complexity of life. He has been creating his sculptures on a large scale for over three decades and its beauty along with universal meaning has been accepted around the world. Its spheres, arches and discs embellish and complete locations in various European, American and Australian cities. "
Arnaldo Pomodoro was born in 1926, in Morciano, Emilia Romagna, Italy. He served as a consultant for the restoration of public buildings in Pesaro, while studying stage design and working as a goldsmith. In 1955, his sculpture was first shown at the Galleria del Naviglio in Milan.
He received the International Sculpture Prize at the São Paulo Biennial in 1963 and began exhibiting individually at the Marlborough Galleries in New York and Rome.
Since the mid-1970s, Pomodoro has continued to gain popularity for its unique commitment to fundamental geometric shapes, especially the column, cube, pyramid, sphere, and disk. Its massive architectural forms suggest a continuous process of self-destruction and regeneration. His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in major museums. Pomodoro currently lives and works in Milan.
